The Democratic Alliance (DA) election campaign, toward the upcoming local government election, is marching at full steam.
We welcome that the IEC has cast in stone the first Voter Registration weekend, for 20 and 21 June 2026.
This local government election is make-or-break for many small towns, municipalities and metros. The DA is hard at work campaigning and preparing, because only the DA can get these broken towns, municipalities and metros working.
On this voter registration weekend in June all voting stations will be open, for residents to come out to register to vote. And the DA will be present across South Africa to help and assist in voter registration.
For months the DA has been building an election campaign across South Africa, and in the following municipalities the DA has already announced Mayoral Candidates:
- Johannesburg,
- Tshwane,
- Mangaung,
- Nelson Mandela Bay,
- eThekwini,
- Emfuleni,
- Knysna,
- Steve Tshwete,
- JB Marks,
- Beaufort West,
- Beyers Naude,
- Hessequa,
- Kannaland,
- KwaDukuza,
- Laingsburg,
- Lesedi,
- Mogale City,
- Rand West City,
- Merafong,
- Overberg District,
- Central Karoo District, and
- Cape Winelands District.
Tomorrow we will announce a Mayoral Candidate for Govan Mbeki in Mpumalanga, and on Friday for another local government in Gauteng.
And there are many many more DA Mayoral Candidates to be announced in the coming days and weeks.
The DA’s campaign is moving with speed because this election is so important.
Residents of South Africa in so many badly governed municipalities are crying out for services, jobs, safety and good governance – and the DA can bring these things, with voters making the right choice in the upcoming election.
