The Democratic Alliance (DA) calls on the new South African Tourism Board to urgently bring the long-running matter involving suspended CEO Ms Nombulelo Guliwe to a conclusion. As soon as the new Board Chairperson is confirmed, I will write to them to advise them on the serious case facing Ms Guliwe.
Ms Guliwe has been suspended on full pay, draining taxpayer money, for far too long. She is not just accused, but she faces findings of wrongdoing.
There are very serious findings against Ms Guliwe, yet for a variety of reasons, often involving Minister Patricia de Lille, Ms Guliwe is protected from facing the music.
The Board must now act decisively and ensure that the findings of the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) and the recommendations of the Ngubane Forensic Report are implemented without further delay.
The case against Ms Nombulelo Guliwe has been unduly prolonged, and it is deeply concerning that this is the third Board tasked with this issue, despite serious findings already existing. This cycle of instability is damaging to South Africa’s tourism sector.
South Africa’s tourism sector deserves a Board that acts decisively and puts the industry first. The DA will not allow another Board to leave this issue unresolved.
