The DA expects Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya to be fired from SAPS if found guilty of the serious allegations of sexual grooming and rape he faces. This is the last straw, if found guilty, he must be fired.
SAPS cannot credibly claim to protect women and children unless they act decisively when serious allegations involve a senior officer. Sibiya is already on suspension, but if guilty of rape he cannot remain in the SAPS.
No rank, title or position of influence shall place anyone above accountability.
Criminal accountability must find its high-water mark within SAPS.
If Sibiya is found guilty, he must be permanently removed from SAPS to maintain public confidence in the police service.
The people of South Africa deserve a police service that protects victims, upholds the law and acts without fear or favour.
