Matzikama

Matzikama Local Municipality is in the northernmost part of the Western Cape. It encompasses Doring Bay, Strandfontein, Ebenhaezer, Papendorp, Lutzville, Koekenaap, Vredendal, Klawer, Vanrhynsdorp, Bitterfontein, Nuwerus, Kliprand, Stofkraal, Molsvlei, Putsekloof and Rietpoort.

Matzikama means “place of water”. The DA is in a coalition government here.

The new Wishlist System

allows councillors to take requests to management and create action plans and targets, so that the Municipality can deliver on its promise.

DA-led Matzikama is building new outdoor gyms and play parks in Doringbay, Lutzville and Vredendal North; and upgrading sports facilities in Klawer.

The new Local Drug Action Committee offers drug education and support in the war on drugs.

The new pro-poor budget is bringing better roads and drains; access to water, and sanitation. And 250 houses in Vredendal North are getting electricity.

Born in October 1953, Executive Mayor Johann van der Hoven served in the South African Police Service and through his hard work and dedication received many promotions and also completed his national diploma in police administration at Graaff-Reinett College.
