In early 2019, executive mayor of the DA-led Langeberg municipality, Henry Jansen, teamed up with the Cape Winelands district municipality and donated cricket bats to the Robertson soft ball cricket association. Soft ball cricket is a type of cricket that is played with a tennis ball.
The players approached Mayor Jansen and asked for any form of donation or funding from the municipality that could assist them. Mayor Jansen decided to step in and assist, as this is a sport played by many young residents within the Robertson area.
A total of 13 cricket bats to the value of R 5000 was donated to the association. When handing over the bats, Mayor Jansen said he hoped this donation would go a long way to empower the youth of Robertson through sport.
