Serviced sites for residents in Nkqubela

In an effort to address Langeberg’s historic backlog, the DA-led municipality decided to develop serviced sites as part of their housing delivery programme. These service sites are plots which consist of connected basic services (water, sewerage and electricity) and a pre-built toilet where people can build their own homes.

Residents of Nkqubela were overjoyed when Western Cape Minister for Human Settlements Bonginkosi Madikizela and the executive mayor of Langeberg Henry Jansen were present to hand over the serviced sites in the Nkqubela area.

The objective of this project is to provide enhanced serviced sites to qualifying beneficiaries living within informal settlements in and around the Nkqubela area. To unlock this project, the municipality constructed a reservoir in Nkqubela to which the Western Cape Provincial Government contributed R4.5 million.

A total 505 serviced sites have been completed and will be handed over to beneficiaries in different phases to ensure that each resident gets an opportunity to engage with the mayor and other municipal stakeholders.
