The DA-led Breede Valley municipality has listened to the pleas of the Steenvliet community and embarked on the upgrading of the Donkies River bridge in Touwsriver. The old structure was not built to be used as a pedestrian structure and increasingly became a safety hazard for residents wanting to cross to the other side.
Alpha Civil, a contractor based in Worcester, was appointed to construct the new bridge which will offer a much safer and more convenient crossing for pedestrians. Construction started in June 2019 at a cost of R1,96 million and is expected to be completed in October 2019. The project will also create job opportunities during the construction phase.
Mayor Antoinette Steyn said that this project is just one way of showing residents that the DA-led Breede Valley municipality is responsive to the needs of the community.
