Modimolle Mayor’s Millwright project a success

A millwright – also known as an industrial mechanic – is a skilled tradesperson who
installs and maintains heavy machinery used in the engineering or construction
industry.

Modimolle Mookgophong DA Mayor Marlene van Staden was first approached in
2017 to recruit two young people from Modimolle-Mookgophong with a Grade 12
with pure maths and science to receive training.

After a transparent social media campaign, a short list of ten was drawn up and
two were eventually selected to receive training at a local business.

Currently Neo Ramasodi (25), who attended Laerskool Vaalwater and Thabo
Modimola (26), who attended Mokhla Motala Secondary school have both
successfully completed the first half of the programme.

The factory manager was so impressed with these candidates that he requested
the Mayor to recruit two more young people to start a similar journey.

Once again, the process will be open to all young people under the age of 30 who
grew up in the Modimolle municipality and who went to one of the local high
schools. Potential candidates must have a grade 12 certificate with pure
mathematics and science.

The millwright trade is a very sought-after skill and can lead to a lot of opportunities
in many industries.
