The Drakenstein Municipality, together with the Non- Profit Organisation Fight Back SA, hosted a self-defense class and information session for female municipal staff members. Welcoming the Fight Back SA trainers to Drakenstein, Executive Mayor Conrad Poole said the event was part of his commitment that the municipality would tackle Gender Based Violence 365 days a year.
The Mayor told the participants that tackling Gender Based Violence must not just become a handy catch phrase that people threw around. “We must take proactive as well as reactive steps to bring this scourge on our society to an end. We can’t just pay lip service, we must walk the walk. And that is what we are doing here today” said Mayor Poole.
