ECD Covid-19 Safety Kit handover

22 Sep 2020 in Where We Govern

The Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, Alderman Conrad Poole, hosted principals, teachers and care givers from Early Childhood Development centers at the council chambers in Paarl to hand over  Covid-19 Safety Kits on behalf of the municipality. These Safety Kits include two liters of hand sanitizer, ten face masks and information pamphlets and posters with useful Covid-19 safety tips.

Mayor Poole praised the teachers present for the incredibly important work they do in ensuring that the children in their care get the best possible start in life.

Mayor Poole said “Our children are the future and we as parents, guardians and teachers are the ones that must give our children the best chance in life. Early childhood development is the cornerstone of the building blocks our children will use to build their futures and become the leaders of tomorrow.”

The Mayor added that ECDs were not just a place to dump a child for the day but were critically important centers that continue to perform a vital service under very difficult circumstances. He thanked the teachers for their commitment and passion and dedication.

The Mayor was accompanied by the Mayoral Committee member for Community Services, councillor Ewie Gouws and the Executive Director of Community Services Gerald Esau.  Both councillor Gouws and Executive Director Esau expressed their appreciation and respect for the role played by teachers in our communities.

This project, thanks to a generous donation of 500 safety kits from the Western Cape Government, sees ECDs, informal traders and micro enterprises operating within the Drakenstein Municipal area joining other businesses to fight the spread of Covid-19.
