Earlier this week, Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Alderman Randall Williams had a productive meeting with automotive business executives from Nissan and BMW. The meeting was held at the Rosslyn Industrial Area in Region 1.
This business engagement formed part of my weekly oversight programme, where I
assess service delivery in all seven regions of Tshwane.
We felt that it was necessary to assess the status of service delivery in the Rosslyn
Industrial Area. It is important that we keep communication lines open between the
City and the business sector at large. The Rosslyn Industrial Area is very important to
us as it contributes to Tshwane’s economy and creates job opportunities for our
residents.
During this meeting with the two companies, Nissan and BMW shared some of the
challenges in their business operations area, which include concerns regarding power
and water outages.
These two matters affect business operations and the impact of Eskom’s loadshedding, in particular, was raised as it has a significant effect on businesses and is damaging to our electricity infrastructure.
However, with this said, the maintenance and refurbishment of our critical
infrastructure is at the top of our list of priorities. We need to accelerate repair work to
reduce water leaks and we are driving strategic focus towards substations that need
upgrades to meet current demand.
The City remains committed to creating a conducive business
environment where the automotive industry can grow further.
