Thank you to Hennops Revival and all the supporting partners for assisting the City in the clean-up of the Hennops River

21 Feb 2022 in Where We Govern

The City of Tshwane is pleased to have partnered with the public benefit organisation,
Hennops Revival, to host a three-day clean-up campaign at the Hennops River in
Clubview, Centurion. The campaign was held from 17 to 19 February 2022.

The massive clean-up effort forms part of our World Wetlands Month commemoration.
The month is tied to Wetlands Day, which is observed annually on 2 February to raise
global awareness of the importance of wetlands.

Over the three days, 195 volunteers from various organisations and within the
community kindly volunteered to clean up waste that had formed by the Hennops River near Sorex Estate in Clubview.

Over the three days, 2 000 bags of waste were collected and a further 244 kg of waste, including bottle caps and steel cans, was removed for recycling and repurposing by BluSwirl Recycling.

This campaign for the common good of the environment enjoyed a noteworthy amount of support in the form of donations and activism from Oasis Water in Irene that donated drinking water, Rebels Pizza who provided lunch, #GoZone water, Simarlo Park that supplied 300 personalised “Hennops Revival”-branded fresh bottled water, and bags sponsored by the company, Italpac.

Volunteers included amazing groups from BluSwirl Recycling, Hoërskool Zwartkop,
Midstream College, Sutherland High School, Don’t Waste, ShareTrackin and
numerous volunteers from the community.

I want to thank all of the community groups and members who assisted in this massive collaborative project. Your efforts are so dearly appreciated. The City of Tshwane embraces partnerships with our stakeholders working with our Tswelopele Clean-up Campaign to keep our city clean.
