We have completed our current road infrastructure improvement initiative, the slurry seal project in Prince Albert. The goal of the project was to enhance as many of Prince Albert’s roads through the application of slurry seals. This will extend the lifespan of our streets and improve driving conditions for everyone.
This was the first time in many years that Council committed own funds to an infrastructure project. We allocated R6,3 million for stormwater and roads in the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 financial years.
Project Highlights
– Total Budget: R5,775,463.82
– Total Expenditure to Date: R5,025,107.75
– Distance Treated: 9.33 kilometres of roads
Completed Work
We have successfully applied slurry seals to 24 streets and areas in Prince Albert. Some key areas include:
– Hancke Street
– Van der Walt Street
– Mark Street
– Klip Street
– Kweekvallei Circle
– Voor Street
– Loop Street
– Lang Street
– De Wit Street
– Kronkel Road
The selection of roads for treatment was based on the condition of the existing bituminous layer. We had to address the most pressing needs first.
Next Steps
The municipality will soon begin painting road signs and pavement edging.
We are sorry that this project did not see more streets being sealed. However, we have applied for Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funding to upgrade all roads in our municipal area.
Thank you for your patience and support during this improvement process. The slurry project represents our commitment to maintaining and enhancing our municipality’s infrastructure for the benefit of all residents. Your support was crucial to the success of this project and our community’s development.
