JMPD seize Kat, Crystal Meth and Dagga in Lenasia

22 Feb 2017 in Where We Govern

After receiving tip-off from the community in Lenasia, the JMPD K9 unit and members from SAPS arrested seven suspects in Komati Street, Lenasia Taxi Rank, Carmane Street and Calf Street for possession and dealing of drugs.

Dozens of ready-to-be-sold packs of Kat, Crystal Meth and Dagga over the approximate value of R16000 were recovered and the suspects were taken to the Lenasia Police Station to be charged for possession and dealing of illicit drugs.

I wish to congratulate the officers of SAPS and the JMPD K9 Unit for their efforts in bringing these drug dealers in Lenasia down.

The City of Johannesburg is clamping down on crime and drugs across the city and every arrest our JMPD officers make, means one less drug dealer on our streets.

We appreciate the co-operation and help from community members to not only identify drug hot-spots, but also the unsavoury characters aiding these criminals.

It is reported that some members of the community are working with the drug dealers and tipped them off about the sweeping operation yesterday. Had this not been the case, we would have seen more arrests and recoveries yesterday.

The City remains committed to fighting crime and drugs plaguing our communities and will do everything in our power to ensure that criminals cannot rest in Johannesburg and that residents are kept safe.
