The festive season is a time when most people become exhausted mentally and emotionally. This period is associated with loosening down and enjoy the company of friends and families. On the other hand, it is also the time when drug dealers prey on their consumers. The Executive Mayor, Cllr Bongani Baloyi recently visited the Walking With Winners substance abuse recovery centre in Balomoral Estate, De Deur on 22 December 2016. Walking With Winners is a substance abuse, prevention, intervention, addict rescue, education, rehabilitation and addiction counselling and support group. Pastor Dave Barber welcomed the Executive Mayor and his team and gave some back ground on the work of the centre. The Executive Mayor handed over some Christmas packs and toured around the facility before making his address.
While conducting his address the Executive Mayor drew various points with an emotive and positive atmosphere to motivate and inspire his audience. Further reasoning out that it is not only the role of government to combat drug addiction however there are personal decisions taken between the dealer and purchaser. The Executive Mayor further thanked the centre managers for doing an incredible work for the betterment of our society. Nonetheless, the Municipality is investigating ways of combating substance abuse with the CPF’s, SAPS and other organisations to bring down drug manufacturing and distribution areas.
