The Oudtshoorn Municipality has launched a project to identify overgrown and neglected vacant land and force the owners to clean it up. The Executive Mayor Colan Sylvester says this project is all part of a campaign to clean up not only the vacant land but also the image and dignity of the town.
The Mayor says that owners will be given two weeks to clean up the land failing which the municipality will deploy its own team or a team of contractors and the bill will be sent to the land owners.
The municipality had received a number of complaints from residents and tourists regarding the neglected patches of vacant land.
