The Saldanha Bay Municipality has launched a project to focus attention on the needs and aspirations of the youth in the area. The first project will be the launch of a Youth Council which will focus on residents under the age of 18 who are leaders in the High Schools in the region.
Mayor Marius Koen said this will engage young people in the sphere of local government. He said the best way to establish the needs and aspirations of young people is to interact with them directly.
The Mayor has also proposed a project to address unemployment which is rife amongst 18 to 35 year olds. The project will look at the possibility of launching a night school using retired teachers to help young people obtain a matric pass as well as involving local businesses in creating internships and mentoring programs.
