The new homes being built by the Oudtshoorn municipality in Rose valley will be handed over to residents during the next month. The DA led municipality started building the homes in 2016 and consist of 67 single units, 46 semi-detached houses and 222 double story homes.

According to officials at the Municipality, the bulk infrastructure including storm water pipes, sewerage pipes and running water, is currently being installed. The project is made up of three phases at the end of which 883 homes will have been built. The third phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

The Municipality has also launched an appeals process for residents who want to question the allocation of homes, check the housing lists or apply for specific housing based on disability or age.

Residents currently living in shacks have been requested to break down the structures and move into temporary accommodation until the houses have been completed.
