Extract of a speech by Executive Mayor Athol Trollip at the launch of the 2017 Top 50 Companies Awards.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is proud to announce the City’s Top 50 Companies for 2017.
Selected for their ability to attract investment, create jobs and boost exports, the Top 50 Companies are a proud representation of our rising city of opportunity.
The Top 50 companies are selected by a panel with representation from the Municipality, Eastern Cape Development Corporation, Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Eastern Cape Exporters Club. The list is not ranked as each company provides value and output in a unique and beneficial way. The metrics used to assess companies include, but are not limited to; Top Exporters, Top Investors, Top New-Comers, Long Standing Companies and Top Job Creators.
It is very encouraging to note the presence of two new investors in Air Products SA (Pty) Ltd and Coega Dairy (Pty) Ltd – this is an indication of growing investor confidence, driven by a city with improving service delivery. Furthermore, the growth, development and spread of business is evidenced by the number of new recipients listed.
The wool and mohair sector is recognised through one of our City’s top exporters, BKB limited. We are proud of being home to one of the largest wool and mohair industries in the world. Some of the other recognised sectors include automotive, manufacturing, agro-processing, services and ICT.
Nelson Mandela Bay is no longer reliant on a single sector, as diversification of the economy begins to accelerate.
By creating jobs, expanding operations and developing skills, these 50 companies are important partners and stakeholders for our Metro. Despite national economic challenges, many of our local companies continue to grow in a globally competitive market.
We are honoured to recognise these organisations for their valuable work. The Municipality will continue to focus on delivering better services and developing relations with business through the Export Helpdesk.
One City One Future.
