The City of Tshwane is happy to report the recent arrests for dealing and possession of drugs during the 31 May to 05 June 2017 period.
The Anti- drug Unit made 29 arrests in Bronkorspruit and Eesterust in the east of the city, which includes one major bust where one person was arrested for dealing and possession of dagga valued at R100 000.
“This is a considerable achievement in our efforts to get drugs and their peddlers off our streets and I wish to congratulate the officers who risk their lives daily to combat this scourge. Our officers can be rest assured that they have the full support of the political leadership in their exertions to enforce law and order in our society and in dealing with specific priority crimes. Its undeniable that the Anti-drug unit is yielding fruit as it has had an immediate impact, making scores of arrests and confiscating illicit drugs in the recent past. Drug peddlers are warned that their days are numbered. We maintain our stance that offenders have no place to hide, we will root them out so that they face the full might of the law”.
“In the same vein, we will continue with our drug awareness campaigns throughout the City to educate members of the public about the effects of drugs and substance abuse, including assisting those that are battling with drug addiction. These campaigns will be conducted by the Tshwane Metro Police and Health Department frequently in schools and shopping centres” said Alderman Kissoonduth.
For the benefit of the present and future generation, the TMPD will continue to upscale the drug-bust operations without fear or favour and enforce the law through visible policing and conducting crime prevention operations throughout all the City’s seven regions.
