Kouga’s Mayoral clean-up programme is being rolled out through the region.

The municipality’s Solid Waste team was in KwaNomzamo recently to help clean up illegal dump sites. A front-end loader and truck were on hand to collect refuse including building rubble and garden waste as well as ordinary domestic waste.

Kouga Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen told the local media that the programme was part of the municipality’s drive to create a clean environment for all communities.

“We started in Hankey and it was now Humansdorp’s turn. Next week another massive clean-up will be rolled out at Jeffreys Bay,” she said.

“We know that it is not enough just to clear up sites and will, therefore, also be focusing on public education and awareness programmes. Keeping our communities clean is a collective responsibility and we would like to get everyone on board.”

The residents were reminded of the scheduled days for refuse removal and requested to stick to these schedules when putting out their refuse bags for collection. Residents were also reminded of the skip bins that has been provided for waste other than domestic waste. These skip bins are emptied weekly.
