I am happy to announce that the City’s interventions to address traffic light downtime is starting to show positive results.
The City’s road agency (JRA), has simultaneously embarked on the R89.5 million gravel roads upgrade of Mayibuye and Kaalfontein community in Midrand in addition to the prioritised R13.9 million Kaalfontein pedestrian bridge to ensure the safety of residents.
The City’s combined investment of R103.4 million in low income communities in Midrand, forms part of the City’s goal of ensuring improved residents experiences, job creation and access to service delivery. The gravel roads upgrade to surfaced standards in Kaalfontein and Mayibuye are currently underway. The project includes the implementation of storm water drainage systems.
MMC for Transport, Cllr Nonhlanhla Makhuba said: “Progress on the ground has been noted with visible improvements to the local community. The Kaalfontein and Mayibuye gravel roads upgrades to surfaced standards aligns to the cities priority in ensuring the advancement of pro-poor development that provides meaningful redress through the provision of services. These roads will ensure access to services and improved mobility. The construction of the Kaalfontein pedestrian bridge forms part of the city’s priority pedestrian bridge development programme to enable the safe movement of residents in flood conditions.”
As the new administration, we will continue to do all we can to tackle the City’s infrastructure challenges so we can create an enabling environment for strong economic growth, opportunities for all and the efficient delivery of services to our residents.
