As part of our broader human settlement plan, the Msimanga administration has officially opened the recently upgraded 3.8 kilometres of roads and storm water system in Soshanguve extension 5.
This is part of phase one of the multi-year project to upgrade the total length of 15 kilometres of roads and storm water system in the area. Phase two completion of the remaining 11.2 kilometres of the project which will begin during the 2017/18 financial year is at advanced stages of appointing a contractor.
The scope of work comprised the construction of pavement layers, installation of storm water pipes, edge beams, manholes, junction boxes, kerb inlets, surfacing with continuously graded asphalt, installation of road signs, road marking and speed humps.
MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Cllr Mandla Nkomo expressed gratification with the quality of work being done to ensure the provision of services to communities in a sustainable manner “ Maintenance of infrastructure such as roads, storm water systems, electricity networks, water and sanitation networks, parks, sport and recreational facilities are key elements in realising our strategic framers, that of stabilising, revitalising and delivering better services”.
Cllr Sheila Senkubuge, MMC for Roads and Transport Department welcomed the upgrades “Prioritising the regular maintenance and refurbishment of municipal infrastructure aids in creating safe driving and walking conditions for road users. It is our responsibility to fix potholes and maintaining all municipal roads thus promoting road safety”
