The department also received the award for Local Authority of the year 2013 in recognition for providing the local community with affordable, good quality and environmentally friendly housing and services under adverse conditions, The municipality was commended for harnessing local labour and creating work opportunities for many previously unemployed residents, exceeding all set targets for 2012/2013 by the Southern African Housing Foundation. The Provincial Department: Human Settlements also commended the municipality for exceeding the set targets for the 2012/2013 financial year. The remainder of the erven in the Drommedaris Housing Project was also allocated to backyarders who were on the Municipal Database for a very long time, 20 % of the erven was allocated to farm dwellers and 20% of the erven to applicants with Special needs. The project INTERGRATE communities of various towns including farm workers.

On Mandela day in 2013 the Leadership of the Municipality in conjunction with Provincial and National Department of Human Settlements successfully spend their 67 minutes on the Drommedaris site by erecting a food garden and donating furniture to vulnerable beneficiary (Wheel Chair)

The Fairyland UISP Housing Project received an award as second runner up in its category, Upgrade of Informal Settlement Program.

After delays for many years the Fairyland, Siyashlala and Lantana/ Kolbe Informal settlement respectively got underway and the development has brought a definite improvement in the living standards of the beneficiaries, considering the fact that the beneficiaries have been relocated from Informal Structures to formal houses, to Municipal Services access to drinking water and electricity, refuse removal service, job opportunities and availability of public transport.
The Municipality approved a Housing Selection and Allocation policy that will accommodate vulnerable groups of diverse communities and it is in line with the Minister of Human Settlements WC , objectives that Top structures be priotized for the elderly , people with special needs , child headed households and people in the GAP Market.

The Kingston Town Project was successfully unblocked by the Executive Mayor and Provincial Minister of Human Settlements that lead to the handover of approximately 52 houses to families of the Kingston Town Informal Settlement that for many years resided in informal structures. The White City Project that came to a standstill during 2007 was successfully unblocked in June 2016 and approximately 21 of the 33 beneficiaries’ houses have been completed and hand over.
