Just over 700 beneficiaries received title deeds to their state-subsidised houses during a handover ceremony led Member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing and Human Settlements, Cllr Mandla Nkomo, this weekend.
The title deeds are for rightful beneficiaries who have been allocated low cost houses or serviced stands in Hammanskraal West Extensions 1 and 2 in Ward 49.
Nkomo symbolically conferred 15 of the 705 title deeds, with the remainder being handed over by the administration team.
Nkomo was joined by the Chairperson of section 79 oversight committee on Housing and Human Settlements, Cllr Nkele Molapo.
The Msimanga administration is speeding up the delivery of title deeds to state-subsidised houses so that recipients have legal ownership of the property where they reside or operate businesses from. This provides homeowners with an important economic asset to leverage.
During the conferral, Nkomo congratulated the new homeowners and urged them to take care of their properties. “You are now the sole and legal owner of the house being allocated and registered in your name. Home ownership is an exciting experience, as it restores pride, dignity and respect. The title deeds handed to you carry certain responsibilities and rights, obligations and duties that you must always meet and fulfil”.
“You are obliged to pay the municipality for basic services like water and electricity and other services and facilities provided in your area. The continued supply of these services requires regular payment. Although the municipality provides you with a certain amount of free basic water and electricity, the amount you pay for will vary according to your usage.” said Nkomo.
As per our electoral promise, the DA-led administration is also providing service sites, in communities with significant housing backlogs. Beneficiaries of serviced stands are also receiving title deeds and rudimentary services.
