Persistent requests to the Department of Transport to deal with outdated machines at the Traffic Departments has finally paid off as new machines will be installed tomorrow, said Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security, John Best.

Three new machines will be installed in Uitenhage tomorrow and eight on Tuesday in Korsten.

“The Live Capturing Units (LCUs), used to capture appointments and applications for new Driver’s Licences and Learner’s Licences, are all outdated and will be decommissioned at both the Uitenhage and the Korsten Traffic and Licencing Centres. The old machines will be replaced with new Live Enrolment Units.

“We have been informed that it will take one day to do this and ultimately ensure that service delivery at our centres is improved and that long queues are a thing of the past.

“The installation of the new machines will start tomorrow (Wednesday, 20 September) at the Uitenhage Traffic and Licencing Centre which means the scheduling of appointments and the renewal of learner’s and driver’s licences will not be done tomorrow,” MMC Best said.

Three machines will be installed in Uitenhage and eight Live Enrolment Units will be installed at the Korsten Traffic and Licencing Centre on Tuesday, 26 September.

During the closure scheduled learner’s licence and driver’s licence tests will continue.
