I am pleased to announce, on behalf of the City of Johannesburg, the reinstatement of Mr Vuyani Singonzo after being unfairly dismissed by the previous administration.
Mr Singonzo was victimized by the previous administration for leading workers in the City to raise awareness about corruption, and abuse.
He’s reinstatement came as a result of independent arbitration, which led to an agreement between the parties.
He fought for his rights, despite being humiliated and intimidated.
Although this occurred before our tenure, we would like to extend our sincere apologies to Mr Singonzo for the manner in which he was treated, and how his life was almost destroyed for doing the right thing.
This administration is determined to ensure that corruption remains public enemy number one, and we will continue to ensure that justice is served, as well as ensure that those who speak out against corruption and abuse are protected and treated fairly.
No longer will honest men and women who speak out against corruption be victimized, humiliated and intimidated for doing the right thing. We have ensured that the City’s Forensic Investigations Unit is well capacitated to deal with all reports of corruption, so that whistleblowers remain protected, and that our residents are no longer robbed by City officials.
