The prize giving of a schools recycling art competition was held at Panorama Primary School in Vredenburg on Wednesday, 27 September 2017.  It was part of the launch of phase two of Saldanha Bay Municipality’s residential recycling collection service to the wider municipal area.

An imaginative variety of entries were created by the learners. A group of learners from Hopefield Primary School was collectively awarded the first prize for a guitar made from recycled materials.

Tracy Maeder and Genevieve Jansen from the Saldanha Bay Swop Shop Project and Hedwig Slabig, Director: Biodiversity and Research at the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve were on the judges’ panel.

The competition and event was coordinated by the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve on behalf of Saldanha Bay Municipality. Werdi Alaart, project co-ordinator at the Biosphere Reserve, thanked the schools for their participation, as well as the local businesses for their donation of prizes.
