After promising to sell the previous Tshwane administration’s luxurious mayoral mansion, Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga has announced that proceeds from the sale of the house will go to building 40 – 50 houses for poor Tshwane residents.
The house will start with a R5-million auction price.
On 28 September, the Tshwane council voted in favour of selling the Mayoral Mansion, despite ANC opposition attempts to slow down proceedings.
The mayoral mansion, which Msimanga describes as a “white elephant”, was renovated by the previous ANC administration at a staggering cost of R12 million.
Despite the exorbitant amount spent on the renovations, the valuators have uncovered defects including surface cracks on exterior and interior walls, clear evidence that the money meant to enhance the house went to the pockets of the few.

Mayor Msimanga has since pressed criminal charges against those implicated by a forensic investigation probing the renovations. The DA-led administration believes the R12 million was stolen from the pockets of residents to enrich ANC friends.
