Sixty young matriculants in the Breede Valley municipality are about to start a skills development program sponsored by the municipality in conjunction with Boland College. The new students, aged between 18 and 35, all responded to an advert on the municipality’s web page.
The three courses that the successful applicants will now embark on are the following:
Roadworks L3
This qualification is for persons who work or intend to work within a construction context on a site.
Recipients of this qualification will have the knowledge and skills to conduct the essential operations associated with efficient and safe work in roadworks.
The qualification is designed to be flexible and accessible so that people can demonstrate the competencies required to work safely in construction generally and more specifically in roadworks.
Typical job roles would include Road Worker, Road Construction Worker, 
Roadwork Artisan.
Welding L2
This qualification is for learners who want to follow a career in welding.
The qualification focuses on developing skills and knowledge necessary to establish a career in welding at an intermediate level.
Welding application and practice require joining and cutting of materials that meet national and international requirements. Welding generally requires the 
joining of material that is subjected to considerable stress when in operation and the welding process therefore needs to be consistent and accurate.
This Qualification forms part of a series at different levels to create opportunities 
for development, a career path and greater security of employment within the welding industry.
Painting L3
This qualification is a sub-field of construction, and is for persons who work or 
intend to work within a construction context on or off a site.
Recipients of this qualification will have the knowledge and skills to conduct the essential operations associated with efficient and safe work within the workplace.
