Diazville Housing handover

23 May 2018 in Where We Govern

There was a great deal to celebrate in the DA-led Saldanha Bay municipality on Tuesday the 24th of April 2018 when the Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela and Mayor Marius Koen officially handed over houses to beneficiaries in Diazville.

The majority of the beneficiaries are community members employed by the fishing industry and were previously backyard dwellers. A recipient, Marsonelle Engelbrecht, was particularly overjoyed when her home was handed over to her. She told the Minister and the Mayor, “I don’t need a man, I have my house.”

The DA-led Saldanha Bay municipality decided that the houses will be handed over in batches until the project is completed in August 2018. The Department of Human Settlements will spend an estimated R79.6 million in total to build 559 units.

The DA-led Saldanha Bay municipality would like to wish the new homeowners all the best for the future and offer a huge congratulations to all beneficiaries.
