Eighty-seven year old Nomfesane Mthula was one of the happy recipients of a title deed that was handed out by MMC for Housing in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Meshack Van Wyk, today.

MMC Van Wyk issued 500 title deeds to the community of Lufhereng, putting to effect the promise made on 20 June 2018.

The MMC addressed his inaugural event as the political head of the Housing Department, emphasizing the importance of this event: “This administration has dedicated itself to speeding up the delivery of title deeds and it has been a made a top priority as my part of deliverables to the citizens of Joburg.”

The MMC also walked to five homes where he personally handed title deeds to the elderly.

“It is an honour to be able to give the elderly their title deeds, and through it a dignity that they had been deprived of for a long time. They will now sleep with less anxiety knowing that they are the rightful owners of their houses,” said MMC van Wyk.

The MMC also pleaded with the residents of Lufhereng to keep their title deeds safe and encouraged them to write wills so that there are less problems experienced when the elderly pass on.

The MMC promised the residents of Joburg that in the next financial year, the Department had set a target of issuing 3 500 title deeds, and it was a target they put all resources towards meeting.

“The days of people waiting decades to receive title deeds are over. I will hand out title deeds throughout the City,” he concluded.
