The City of Tshwane welcomes the Annual Inspection Report findings on public sector health establishments published by the Office of Health Standards Compliance [OHSC], an independent entity and regulator in the healthcare sector established “to protect and promote the health and safety of users of health services” within the Republic of South Africa.
The report follows inspections conducted on the extent to which health care facilities comply with the standards of healthcare in relation to the national health system. As part of the findings, the OHSC provided an overall look at how public healthcare facilities performed in districts across all provinces. A total of 48 of 52 districts were inspected during the 2016/17 financial year and the inspections were unannounced as provided for in the Act, the group said. The City of Tshwane was the top performer, with an average score of 70% across facilities. This was followed by eThekwini and Ekurhuleni at 67% and 66%, respectively, and Sedibeng and Uthukela rounding out the top five. We welcome the results but maintained that more should be done to achieve an even higher score.
