The DA-led Drakenstein municipality allocated R5.4 million in its 2018/19 budget towards the “Paint my Story” project aimed at giving municipal flats a much-needed face lift.

The municipality embarked on this project to improve the aesthetic appearance of informal settlements by painting some of the buildings in vibrant colours. Executive Mayor Conrad Poole stated that he hopes the completion of this project will bring a sense of pride to the residents of the area.

The infrastructure to be painted includes boundary walls, informal structures and housing rental stock on the visible front of developments along main arterials.

Upon completion of some of the flats, Mayor Poole proclaimed that the mothers who live in these flats are extremely happy and proud to be included in this project. The Mayor reiterated his commitment to changing the perception of the areas where the municipal flats are based.
