City working to resolve repairs and maintenance backlog at facilities

09 Oct 2018 in Where We Govern

The DA-led coalition in the City of Johannesburg, has, since taking over governance, always committed to not only improving our residents’ experience of the City, but also achieving greater service delivery through service excellence.

This commitment was undertaken with the understanding that to achieve this, everyone working in the City would have to work together to ensure that patterns of non-delivery did not prevail. This is in line with one of the City priorities to offer professional services to the residents of our beautiful city.

In July this year, I embarked on a tour of all the City’s recreational centres and swimming pools to ascertain the level of repairs and maintenance in the facilities. I was disappointed to see the state of disrepair in our facilities despite the Repairs and Maintenance budget that remains unspent year on year. In addition to this, I have received many of our resident’s rightful complaints over the state of these facilities.

I would like to reassure our residents that I, as the political head of the Community Development Department am aware of these issues, and I am taking steps to ensure that our facilities across the City are maintained and restored to a condition that will allow residents their optimum usage.

I would like to extend my apologies to residents for any inconvenience as a result of this. I am regularly meeting with departmental management so as to speedily resolve maintenance related matters at facilities, so that all our residents can experience the best of our City services.

I commit to providing constant communication on the progress made and any challenges met until this issue is resolved.
