Under the leadership of the DA, the Cederberg municipality, in cooperation with the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements, was able to initiate the first housing project in Lambers Bay in 19 years.

The Lamberts Bay housing project was launched in 2019 and will consist of two phases. Phase one entails the building of 184 Breaking New Ground (BNG) houses at a cost of R52 million and as at the end of August 2019, 86 completed homes had been handed over to the beneficiaries.

Phase two of the Lamberts Bay housing project will consist of over 400 housing opportunities, including BNG and Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) homes. The bulk infrastructure for phase two has already been installed and the municipality wants to start handing over homes in January/February 2020.

With this mixed housing project, the DA-led council has confirmed its commitment to empowering communities through legal home ownership.
