Community Development Grant In Aid creates 259 jobs in the 2018/19 financial year

The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development, Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba, is pleased to announce that her annual R5 million Grant In Aid Annual Discretionary Fund has reached 45 organisations in the 2018/19 financial year, and created 259 jobs.

Each year, the City of Johannesburg, through the MMC, makes donations, grants and sponsorships to organisations and institutions which promote and contribute to the purpose and duties of local government.

These organisations enhanced the service delivery programmes of the Departments’ Arts, Culture and Heritage, Library and Information Services and Sport and Recreation Directorates respectively.

Additionally, this contribution ensured job creation, skills development, utilization of SMME’s, youth development, women empowerment and support for people with disabilities.

In addition to the 259 jobs that were created, 63 SMMEs were also used during this years’ leg of the Grant In Aid.

This is yet another way the City of Johannesburg, through the MMC’s Annual Discretionary Fund, is ensuring pro-poor development that addresses inequality and provides meaningful redress.

We would like to thank the 45 organisations for stepping up to the plate, and ensuring that they are accountable throughout the grant period – and we would like to encourage others to apply when applications open for the 2019/20 Grant in Aid season later this year.
