In July 2019, the DA-led Bergrivier municipality handed over 30 houses to beneficiaries in Velddrif as part of a two phased Integrated Residential Development Programme (IRDP) project. The R11 million housing project will yield 107 new houses.
Phase one of the project saw the completion and handing over of 18 houses. Phase two entails the completion of a further 89 houses of which 59 is still in the construction phase. These houses should be ready for transfer to the beneficiaries by the end of 2019.
All beneficiaries are originally from the Velddrif area. As executive mayor Ray Van Rooy was unable to attend the official handover, mayco member Adam DuPlooy addressed the beneficiaries on his behalf. He implored the beneficiaries to look after their new homes and to take pride in it.
