Residents of Ceres and Wolseley had reason to celebrate in April this year when executive mayor Barnito Klaasen and Western Cape MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela handed over 200 title deeds to homeowners in the area. The houses, situated in Bella-Vista and Pine Valley, formed part of the municipality’s Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme (UISP) and Integrated Residential Development Programme (IRDP) housing projects which were completed between 2010 and 2017.
The empowerment of people through home ownership is one of the key objectives of DA-led governments. Formalised home ownership provides people with an important economic asset to leverage. Mayor Klaasen said that this is just one of the ways that Witzenberg municipality is delivering on the DA’s manifesto promises.
