Cape Town Executive Mayor, Dan Plato calls on the public to report illegal dumping as Clean-up Campaign resumes in 2020

06 Feb 2020 in Where We Govern

Thursday, 06 February, Mayor Dan Plato restarted his successful Clean-up campaign in Fisantekraal to continue educating communities about the importance of keeping our neighbourhoods clean. The Executive Mayor has urged residents to dispose of refuse in a responsible manner.

The ‘Keep Cape Town Clean’ campaign was launched in March last year and has gathered momentum within Cape Town, inspiring clean-ups by various organisations and residents.

‘While I am glad to see that organisations and residents have been inspired to carry out clean ups in communities, there remains a need for continued awareness and education around the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of our neighbourhoods. I have noticed that some sites previously cleaned have returned to a less-than-ideal state. I encourage residents to not litter and also urge members of the public to report illegal dumping when they see it. Our solid waste staff work hard to keep areas clean, but we also need your support,’ said Executive Mayor Dan Plato.

Illegal dumping is harmful and against the law. Vehicles used in illegal dumping can be confiscated and a release fee of nearly R16000 will be charged, over-and-above the fines issued for dumping. To report illegal dumping, please call 0860 103 089.

We call on our residents to come out and support the campaign. #KeepCapeTownClean!
