The Executive Mayor of the Drakenstein Municipality, Conrad Poole, recently hosted a delegation from the Danish Liberal Democratic Party. The DLDP, which is a sister organisation of the Democratic Alliance, requested a visit to a local municipality to interact with the Mayor and his team.
The Danish delegation met with the Mayor and his Mayoral Committee members for a briefing and a question and answer session before being escorted on a field trip to a number of ongoing projects in the Municipality.
The site visits included the Vlakkeland housing project, which aims to provide housing opportunities as well as provide schools, churches, parks and a commercial centre. The project will see the first 75 residents take occupancy by mid-2020.
The delegation also visited the the exciting Climate Smart River Park project underway at the Paarl Arboretum. Plans for the upgrade were prepared in 2015 and international funds were received via Drakenstein Municipality’s climate partnership with Neumarkt Municipality in Germany. This project, currently in its planning stage, will feature a smart green classroom, a river cycling route, an outdoor amphitheater and an eco- centre which will be used for environmental education and awareness raising.
The visitors were also taken on a guided tour of the multi-million rand road upgrading project.
