The Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Conrad Poole and the Western Cape Housing Minister Tertius Simmers visited two housing projects underway in the Drakenstein Municipality area recently. The site visits followed a briefing by the contractors and project manager with input from the Provincial Minister’s team and the Executive Mayor.

The Vlakkeland Housing Development, which is a project driven entirely by the Provincial Government, aims to provide 2556 housing opportunities on completion. The project will be carried out in two phases with 924 units in Phase One and 1614 units in Phase Two.

Meanwhile construction is well underway at the second housing project on   erf 16161 in Dal Josephat. The collaborative project between the developer, the Municipality and the Provincial Government includes churches, businesses, a school, a clinic, a retail centre and a park.

According to a recent report, approximately 48% of the services have been installed and the project is on track for completion in mid-2020.
