The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, on 28 February 2020 handed over 46 title deeds to beneficiaries, including 89-year-old Ms Magdaleen Swarts from Roosendal, Delft. The City views the handover of title deeds as an absolute pillar of its efforts to enable redress and transformation.

Beneficiaries of the Roosendal housing development in Delft have received their title deeds including Ms Swarts (pictured above) and Ms Anthia Nontambana (66).

Councillor Booi was joined by Ward Councillor, Michelle Adonis, (pictured above) who assisted with the title deeds process.

‘Receiving the title to one’s own property is of great value as it becomes proof of the asset and empowers beneficiaries to use the asset for leverage where possible and to transfer ownership to their children.

‘What a great day it was to celebrate with our beneficiaries. A title deed is your proof of ownership. You can also only sell a property if you are the owner and you have proof in the form of a title deed. We wish our beneficiaries well for the future,’ said Councillor Booi.
