West Coast District Municipality maintained its status in the country when it was awarded a ninth (9) consecutive clean audit by the Auditor General. This achievement makes WCDM the only municipality in South Africa to have achieved this milestone.
Annually, municipalities across the country are required to meet specific standards and to provide assurance of compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to good governance. This achievement illustrates the municipality’s ability to conform to requirements whilst at the same time deliver on its assigned mandates.
During a council meeting, held on the 11th of December 2019, the Executive Mayor, Ald Harold Cleophas, and various other council members lauded the Municipal Manager, Executive Team, the audit committee and personnel for their commitment and diligence in ensuring that WCDM uphold their standard of being a municipality with a track record of excellence in public administration. “I am proud of the personnel and councillors for their hard work and commitment. I am also proud that we could adhere to policy and regulation without compromising service delivery” said the Executive Mayor.
The Municipal Manager David Joubert thanked the council for their leaderships. “Executive Mayor, Speaker and Councillors it is befitting to express a heartfelt gratitude towards yourselves, the Councillors in their respective portfolios and roles, the organisation in its entirety irrespective of role or delegation for the contribution of the transaction processing. The management team and officials of the municipality whom has worked tirelessly to ensure evidence are presented and enquiries resolved within agreed timeframes. We are fortunate to have a balanced layered team and we can only build on the strength of each individual and collectively reap the rewards” said Joubert.
