City teams up to empower small businesses on financial management and tax matters

Approximately 35 Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) attended a workshop which was arranged by the City in collaboration with the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) which advised them on matters of tax compliance, accessing business finance and managing business finances.

‘The aim of these workshops is to provide relevant information which will make it easy for community-based suppliers and SMMEs to access business finance and incentives offered by various governmental agencies,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

The SMMEs who attended have been selected from the City’s Community-Based Supplier Database.

All participants received toolkits containing three litres of hand sanitiser, two cloth masks, a beanie, toolkit bag and information on how to operate safely during the pandemic. This is aimed to help small businesses and their customers to do business in a safe environment, compliant with COVID-19 protocols.

The City would like to encourage businesses who might be interested to attend similar workshops in future to send an email to Informal.Economy@capetown.gov.za or phone 021 400 3131 (option 6).

The next workshop will be held at the Dulcie September Civic Centre in Athlone on Tuesday, 27 October 2020.
