The City of Cape Town on Wednesday, 7 October 2020, was the recipient of another appreciated and welcome donation of medical equipment by the Taipei Liaison Office.
Thanks to a continued and cherished partnership between the City of Cape Town’s Speaker, Alderman Dirk Smit, and the local Taipei Liaison Office, currently headed by Director General David Lin, the City of Cape Town today received another delivery of much-needed medical equipment.
For many years the City of Cape Town has been a grateful recipient of these donations from the Taipei Liaison Office, which helps to facilitate the receipt of containers stocked with durable medical equipment. Today’s donation includes 200 wheelchairs and 80 commode chairs.
As a Caring City, which seeks to support and care for its elderly residents and those with special needs, these donations will continue to assist in instilling a sense of pride and autonomy among residents who have not been able to gain access to these aids in the past, due to long waiting lists at state hospitals.
‘I would like to express my sincere thanks, gratitude and appreciation to the Cape Town Taipei Liaison Office and Director General Lin, for their generous support and donations over the years. These vital items will once again go a long way to ensure that both our elderly beneficiaries and those with special needs are afforded the dignity of mobility to go about their daily lives and offer them a small sense of comfort,’ said Alderman Smit.
The Amitofo Care Centre (ACC) is a Taiwanese charity organisation, which has distributed medical equipment, medicine and clothing to people in need across Africa, for a number of years.
The ACC was founded by Venerable Huei Li in Taiwan in the early 1990s, also known as the African monk. The idea of the care centre originated from Ven. Huei Li’s compassionate heart and desire to help people in Africa who are battling with terminal illness and those living in extreme poverty.
