On 2 November 2020, the City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate will commence with the resurfacing of Hindle Road in Blue Downs. The work is scheduled to take place over two months, pending unforeseen delays and weather permitting.
Maintenance work will take place between 09:00 and 15:30, Mondays to Saturdays.
The roadworks will affect several suburbs:
- Brentwood Park
- Fairdale
- Fountain Village
- Hindle Park
- Detro Village
- The Conifers
- Malibu Village, B
- Between the R300 and Winton Road
Traffic moving in both directions will be affected and will be managed by flag personnel who will regulate traffic, one direction at a time using a stop-and-go system.
Work areas will be demarcated to regulate traffic flow, and pedestrians.
‘Traffic flow will be affected, but motorists and pedestrians will be able to use the road. I understand that Hindle Road is a busy route and I want to implore road users to move with caution around the construction area and to please adhere to the signage displayed during the construction period,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.
Furthermore, the City appeals to the residents and informal street vendors not to park their vehicles and or conduct business in a manner that will obstruct the maintenance work.
‘In such instances, we will have to ask the vendors to move and we may have to tow away vehicles parked in the road should they be found to be obstructing the maintenance work. We expect congestion in this area and recommend that road users consider alternative routes. We thank you for your cooperation and patience. The works will bring a level of inconvenience, but once completed, we will all benefit. The city’s road network is one of our biggest assets and we have to undertake regular maintenance to ensure its longevity,’ said Alderman Purchase.
