Franschhoek just received an early Christmas gift last weekend in the form of a fantastic new market space for informal traders.

There has been trade for more than 15 years along Franschhoek municipal offices. However, a neat premises are essential for good business, so we decided in 2017 to upgrade the existing premises. Construction started in June 2018 and it was completed within 18 months. The cost of the project amounted R2, 2 million.

The award of stalls within the market space was done according to the municipality’s informal trader policy. The spaces have been advertised and a selection process has been followed for all applicants who want to use the space to make sure we create a sustainable business environment in line with our economic development policy.

The policy requires all the traders to be subject to the rules and regulations so that everyone has an equal and fair chance to do business at the market. Preference is given to Franschhoek residents, traders who only do business in Franschhoek and the sustainability of the products and true is also accounted for.

The new market space creates a safer and pleasant environment for traders and visitors. We also undertake to assist these traders in business training in the long term and transfer sustainable business practices and knowledge to the community.
Several spaces have already been awarded to local dealerships on a contract basis, and the variety of beautiful merchandise is special. Feel free to visit the market and do your Christmas shopping there!
