On Thursday, 11 February 2021, the City of Cape Town and its partner Garden Cities handed over keys to 17 beneficiaries at the R74 million Greenville Phase 3 project. In the last few months, 241 homes were handed over to beneficiaries and more than 1600 beneficiaries have received homes in the three phases thus far.

The City is pleased with the progress being made at the R74 million Greenville project. Thus far, across three phases, the project has provided homes to 1 616 beneficiaries and will continue to provide more opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries over the coming weeks and months.

The Greenville project is a partnership between the City’s Human Settlements Directorate, the Western Cape Government’s Department of Human Settlements and developer, Garden Cities.

‘Today’s handover is an example of the City’s commitment to empowering some of the most vulnerable residents by providing homes to many first-time property owners. Over the coming weeks and months, we will continue to ensure that many more beneficiaries receive their keys to their homes as soon as possible.

‘This morning, we handed over keys to 17 beneficiaries and we are pleased to have provided 241 opportunities to residents in this project over the last few months. We will continue to protect our projects from unlawful occupation and to fight for the rights of residents who are waiting for housing opportunities. We thank the project teams and partners for the hard work and dedication in helping us provide homes to the beneficiaries,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.

The Greenville development’s Phase 1 and 2 had a combined cost of R247 million and Phase 2 was completed in August 2020. The Greenville development forms part of a greater catalytic housing development, which will eventually boast approximately 4 000 Breaking New Ground State-subsidised housing opportunities, social housing, financed linked houses and commercial opportunities.
