On Thursday, 18 March 2021, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and City of Tshwane’s Mayoral Committee Member for Housing and Human Settlements, Councillor Mpho Mehlape-Zimu, visited a number of housing projects in the metro to learn, share and collaborate.

The visiting delegation was given the opportunity to tour the City’s Bothasig and Glenhaven social housing projects and the Bosasa housing development in Mfuleni. These projects benefit some of the more vulnerable beneficiaries in the metro.

‘Our two great cities share similar challenges, so this is an excellent opportunity for us to learn from one another. We are of course aware of the acute housing need that exists in South Africa, and the hugely beneficial impact that affordable housing can have on the lives of our residents and also to enable redress.

‘We have demonstrated our commitment to housing delivery to Councillor Mehlape-Zimu and showed examples of how we work to find solutions for our residents. We want to ensure that as many residents on the City’s Housing Needs Register receive the houses for which they have waited patiently, as part of our dedication to redress and to improve the living conditions of our residents.

‘The City is committed to service delivery through the provision of housing opportunities, including those which we saw today. We thank Councillor Mehlape-Zimu for this opportunity to learn from one another and I hope we can continue on this path of collaboration,’ said Councillor Booi.
